A couple of the othe sites out there have started LOTR book clubs. I'm not exactly sure how they work, if I get a good respomse I'll go ask around. We'd probably start with the Silmarillion and go through to ROTK, then maybe throw in Lost Tales. I'm not sure. Anyways, let me know what you think.

good idea, just don't use LOTR, people have either aready read them or plan on going their own pace, try books easily found in the library...that are sci-fi ;D

It's a good idea, but I'm not sure if I'd join. Maybe. It depends, I guess. I'm already in the middle of reading a book right now, and after that I have other books to read. I'd be happy to suggest some books, though.
I agree that Tolkien shouldn't be used. Some of them are hard to find, and those that aren't, have probably been read, or are going to be read, by most LOTR/Tolkien fans.
You should use other books from other authors. I think it might be cool if you branched other genres, you know. Give people who normally stick to 1 genre (like fantasy, or whatever) something else to read, so that they can really say if they like it or not. Give people a broader range to read from. Who knows, they might actually find something that they like that they never thought they would!

Good Idea! I don't read that much fantasy, so if there are some good, clean ones out there, I should read them and know for sure if I like them. Hey, what's this, my long, curly beard is gone and is replaced with a scruffy one that never needs to be trimmed, but is always the same length! I must be a Ranger!

I have an idea, how about if we read some of the books that inspired Tolkein to write LOTR. Although some of thos might be hard to find also. Hmmm.

The Ents were inspired by a passage from Shakespere. King Lear, I think it was.

Shakespeare is really good, but It is hard to understand the old english. I do if I have my wonderful English teacher there to explain and analyze every line.
You can all read and discuss that, I don't think that I will take part in it, but just to let you know.

Shakespeare is pretty old, yes... that reminds me of one of my lessons last week: I just started this week on a History of English Literature course, and the first thing my teacher said, was: "Never make the horrible mistake saying Shakespeare is Old-English! It is old, it's English, but it is Renaissance-English!"(or something like that...) Then she started showing off by speaking something in really old Old-English, and I slipped into a state of coma.... But Shakespeare is so difficult sometimes.... you'd think it is Old- or Middle-English...

If you want to get Shakesphere, get Side-by-Side, No Fear Shakesphere. It's the best! That's the only way I've been able to read it. My City Library has it for you who live in FL. Then Erui won't have to slip into comas!

It wasn't Shakespeare who put me in a coma, it was more the teacher... I don't like her very much (<-- understatement!) and she doesn't like me (<-- another understatement...) So I just take out my coloured pencils and start drawing while being in a coma. Sort of Ecrire-automatique... (Wow, I remembered something from my arts classes...
Back to the subject: I think I'll start on the Silmarillion during summer break, there is no way I can get to read it before that... So if we start on that, I'll be joining you a bit later... Or before you if you start later, or at the same time...
Now I have confused myself...
