I decided to start this "branch" (proper name please...) because I want to see people's thoughts on old Tom. I find his song and poems and him suddenly bursting into song to be oh so annoying and monotonous. There is also something about him that I just dislike, but there is also the thing about him that I find interesting. Please post and tell me your thoughts on so very odd character.
Here is a link to a site that has more Tom Bombadil stuff on it- www.glyphweb.com/arda/default.htm?http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/t/tombombadil.html

[glow=white,9,900]I liked Tom Bombadil. He has a carefree, easygoing attitude but also commandsrespect. When he sing, well I like it in the book, but someone in real life might be quite a bit annoying.
But Here's a question for ya'll, who'se older? Treebeard, Tom, or Beorn? Treebeard of course is a plant-like Ent, and Tom and Beorn are some humanoid life form. What could they be? And whom of these three is the eldest? Treebeard is possibly the youngest, but he's older than Gandalf. But beorn is like a changeling, and the Hobbit says that he is very old. I'll have to research that. So, what are you're thoughts on Tom and their ages? [/glow]

I'd agree with you on Treebeard being the youngest (out of those 3), but I'm not sure about Tom and Beorn....

Now that I think about it, I think that Tom would be older than Beorn. Because I always thought that he (in a way) was part of the earth and had been around as long as it had been around. I havent read the Hobbit in a while, so I dont really remember much about Beorn. Tell me if/when you find out ;D

I liked Tom. I kind of read all of his sentences as him singing, it was great (I just passed that part in FOTR). I have no idea who is older. Actually, if you want to look at it one way Beorn is older because the Hobbit was written before LOTR. But that's not what you were looking for. Eowyn is killing herself on the ROTK game. It's great, especially with my bro giving directions.

I loved tom the way he sang to the trees, cared for the river and mothered the forest, he takes life at the minute and his playing with the ring won me over

Tom: Tom was one of the best non leading characters in the first book, I have to say his habbit of bursting out into song and verse shows him to be either the most insane of them all, the most care free, both or some other combination of cool characteristics.

Ho Tom Bombadil, Tom Bombadillo. Bright blue his jacket is and his boots are yellow.
I should know all the words to the song Marille sings it so often.
More annoying is Flight's habit of bursting into song while you're are reading and she's reading.

That is annoying, I was at her house for a week once, and thankfully she only did it once. Unfortunately for me I didn't know she did that at the time. We were just sitting there reading when Flight sits up and goes "Prasie him lift you voices..." (That's the evilest song in the world, it gets stuck in my head more firmly than TB's ever did). ShadowSong, her sister, then informed me that she does that often.
Anyways, back to TB, um, i had something to say, but Elfie got me preoccupied with Flight's singing.

You say random bursts of songs like it's a bad thing.

Random bursts are very good. Oh and by the way I'm planning to be spontaneous tomorrow.

[glow=white,9,900]How can it be spontaneous if you're planning it?
People think that random outbursts of song are bad when I do it. Probably because it's something classical, or in Italian or whatever. lol! I know I can sing, so that's not the problem... hmm...[/glow]

I was spontaneous because I didn't do anything spontaneous because I forgot I planned to be spontaneous. how's that?
