Depends on the myth... Our class once had to write a myth about something very common, like a paperclip or a flower pot... How it got its name / how it came into existence... that sort of stuff. Defenitely not nasty and unclean.
On the other hand, some of those real myths are pretty.. well.... eh... strange...

Yeah, my dictionary has sculptures of mythological gods and . . . well, not pleasant. As bad as the ones in Phantom of the opera if you know what I mean! Gross!

yeah, it is interesting, but a good majority is unclean. Some aren't, but most are.

What's weird is that all myths(and lies for that matter) have a seed of truth in them. I don't read myths that much anymore because they started messing with my head.

I had to study it in English for first quarter. It was just Greek and Roman Mythology though, so that is the mythology I've been talking about.

I don't know, some myths should just be outlawed, I mean most of the greek gods drive me crazy they were always drinking and messing up mortals lives will dabling in infedelity...now what kind of example does that set I much preffer fables and parables now those things are packed with content thats usally nurturing

I won't ask but you can share! ;D Whenever I think of water nymphs I always picture sirens. What are they really? Or, like the Lady of the Lake...thats what I think of when I think of water nymphs. What your thinking of is a niaid (I think thats what they are called..), ocean fairies/mermaids (whatever you want to call them)...

yeah, it is interesting, but a good majority is unclean. Some aren't, but most are. I think its sort of unfair for you to say that its "unclean", becuase although I agree with you that I perfer not to look at pictures/statues of naked people, you have to look at it through the Greek's eyes. To them, it was perfectly acceptable, not to mention normal. Oh yeah, as for "Lack For a Better Name" and what you said about Nymphs, not all of them are the same. There are all different types of nymphs.

i said water nymphs. there are four kinds, centaur, mermaid, faun, and satyr. At least in greek mythology. Don't argue, my teacher knows a lot about this, and that's what he says.

Yes, I have definately switched from myths to fairy tales, fables, and parables. I love the little morals at the end. They're so straight to the point, but in a undemeaning way!

[glow=white,9,900]I love reading myths, fairytales, folklore, and all that because I love ancient history. In my humanities class it was so much fun. I don't like all the naked statuary either, but some of them are so beautifully sculpted that you can't help but stand in awe. One of my favorites in Michelangelo's David. It's like, 29 feet tall! And he just went at it with a chisel, no particular plan whatsoever, and now we have this life-like incredible statue. One painting that I like is Bosh's "Garden of Earthly Delights" it's really weird though. It's one of those that's not too clean, but totally strange. There are a couple others I really like. If I ever get a chance, I'm going to go to Italy and Greece, just to see all the architecture.
In my humanities class we read Gilgamesh, Medea, Canterbury Tales, Hamlet, and one other I can't remember now. The only thing that I really don't like about mythology, and especially Greek mythology, is that there is so much immorality in it, and they almost never end happily. Fairytales, on the other hand, almost always have good morals and a happy ending. They don't leave you feeling "ick" like Medea does. lol! We had to create an alternate ending for that one, and change another story to be more modern. I'll post it on the Fan Fic board asap.[/glow]
