[glow=purple,2,300]It is important when you are deciding what costume to make, to think of what time period it will be from, who would have worn it, for what would they have worn it etc. Questions to ask:
Then you draw your outfit, research the sifferent elements and styles in it. How would sleeves in that time have looked? Necklines? Hair? How would they have lived that would effect their clothing? Would they have high necklines and long sleeves? Or are they lower? Would they have lacing on their outer garment? What are the garments called? Questions such as these you should be asking while researching your costume. Unless you are making an Elven costume, which is a combination of several styles, or something that is not from any one time period you should be researching carefully. If you are making something that's a mix of things, then you may want to go to a movie, or just follow your imagination.
I will have my father put up some costuming tips as soon as he can. He was a member of the Society for Creative Anachronisms (SCA.org) for several years, and has done many costuming projects over the years. He also made armor, Medieval and Roman, and did events and reenactments, so he knows.
Have fun making your costumes, and post pictures or links to ones you have made. Other members of this forum can offer help and answeres to any costumeing questions you may have. Hope to see all your lovely work soon![/glow]
