[glow=white,2,300]Rohan is probably my favorite culture of LotR. (Gee, I wonder why...) They are loosely based on Angl-Saxon culture. In this thread we can discuss the culture itself, but costuming ideas and links etc. belong in the costuming page.
Anyway, the Anglo-Saxons wrote in Runes. There is a website, I think it is Dave's Fantasy Fonts, where you can download a font pack for free that enables you to type in Runes.
I also discovered that in TTT DVD EE the song that Éowyn sings at Theodred's funeral is not in Rohirric, (Is that even the right word?), it's in Old English. Here is a copy of the text, and the translation. Oh, and the origin of the name Éowyn is also Welsh.
Éowyn's Dirge
Old English: Bealocwealm hafað fréone frecan forth onsended giedd sculon singan gléomenn sorgiende on Meduselde þæt he ma no wære his dryhtne dyrest and mæga deorost Bealo...
English: An evil death has set forth the noble warrior A song shall sing sorrowing minstrels in Meduseld that he is no more, to his lord dearest and kinsmen most beloved. An evil death...
