Haha, my roommate left for Holland last night, and she mailed me just now. She had left my presents on the couch by mistake (we'll exchange gifts when we both get back), but if I wanted I could open them. But there are no presents on the couch S o I'm beginning to guess she hid them somewhere after all...

At the time of your post, it was already 9:16am over here, so it must have been shortly after 12 for you!

Daylight savings time. I can't remember exactly when we switched back, but it gave me one extra hour of sleep

Then I don't know. Maybe we sneakily changed back another hour when I wasn't looking. I wished they'd told me, I'd appreciated the extra hour more...

the UK zone is one hour behind on us. That is why we celebrate New Year twice: One time in the Netherlands, a second time with the BBC

I realized that. I did think it was weird for such a big timezone, lol.
I didn't know you celebrated it twice, lol.

The BBC has as really nice tv program on the 31st, with all sorts of famous Brits and musicians. They sing, talk, make predictions and resolutions(my favourite resolution: 'go on a diet. And I predict I won't stick to said diet.')

New York is the famous broadcast place for New Year's Eve. It's in the earliest timezone, so they just replay the footage for those in other timezones.
I always go to my grandma's for a New Year's party though. Sometimes I'd be up there until like 3 am, but this year we were completely finished by like 12:15.
