Oh my, poor, poor Snape. I was sooooo happy to find out he was good after all. Okay, he was a git, but he was a git on the good side When he gave Harry those memories, I started reading really fast, because I just had to know what they were about. Poor, young Snape, I felt so sorry for him. And poor Tonks and Lupin... And Teddy of course. It's Harry all over again, isn't it? Parents killed by Voldemort/Death Eaters, and the young lad orphaned.

He had such a difficult life, with no one (after DD death) who believed him, and he never said: 'Sod it, I'm off to Haïti'.

Those characters with an evil edge are most of the time the most interesting ones. Of course you want the good side to win, but it wouldn't be fun without a Snape in each story

Yeah. I never saw Snape as being evil (with the exception of the SS/PS, I totally thought it was Snape, with was closer than who I thought the heir of Slytherin was, lol).

Hahaha! With the first few books I thought Snape might be evil, but I hoped he wasn't. Now I know.... *sighs* Rowling did an amazing job with him.

(to edit would take another view so I would have to post again anyways).
I think the problem he had with Harry was mentioned multiple times in all the books--he looks so much like James. Snape hated James. Even Sirius confused the two of them. That could explain why he was so mean to Harry before it entered his mind that Voldie could be back. He was expecting Lily's son, not another James Potter. Kind of a cruel irony... Does that make sense?

It makes perfect sense. That is probably why it is mentioned so much that he looks like his father, but has his mother's eyes. When Snape is almost dead, he pulls Harry close and stares into his eyes. He sees Lily's eyes then, and gives Potter the memories...

ohh....Hadn't thought of that.
I think he hates Harry also because it should have been his son. That the love of his life married one of the two people that he hated the worst.
What made Lily start to like James? Remember she hated him in Snape's Worst Memory. Maybe she started to hang around them to make Snape jealous and then sort of fell in love with him?

Probably... I'm not sure if she wanted to make Snape jealous, but she certainly wanted to show him she would only want to hang out with people who don't call others Mudblood.
I think Sirius told Harry once that James and Lily didn't date until their seventh year at Hogwarts... So after Snape's Worst Memory that's still two years for Lily to get to like James. (And for James to 'deflate his head a bit', lol)
Harry should have been his son... whoa. It is true that Snape never married and/or had kids, so having Harry around as a constant reminder that he is not his son must have been torture for poor Snape!!

I remember an interview pre HBP that said something like "which teachers are married to who becomes important." I guess it meant more who WASN'T married...I'll need to do some research to discover it....
