[glow=white,2,300]Gondor is based pretty much on Medieval cultures. My parents used to be a part of the SCA, the Society for Creative Anachronisms. My dad was a Roman Soldier at one time, at another time he was a Norman knight, Eduard DeLaVert. My mother was a Castillian Lady, and also an archer. They would all get together in our garage, all the guys would, and make armor and costumes. Oh the wonderful smells and sounds. Metal being shaped, and cut, the smells of leather and wax for the helmets, the sound of the metal being filed. It brings back so many memories just to see a small rivet, or a strip of leather. Then all the guys would go across the street to this field and fight. They'd also go to events, I went to one in Georgia. Imagine going to a Renaissance festical type thing, people selling stuff anf all dressed up, but with a big battle field and people fighting it out, music and colors everywhere. I have a tape of it, remind me to bring it Elondra, next time I go to your house. It has various competitions on it, and background music written and sung by some of the SCA members. I literally grew up with this Medieval world in my house. We still have costumes all over our house, shields and coat of arms hanging in our hallway, swords stuck on top of bookcases and hidden away for safe keeping. There is no way you guys can imagine this. Oh it was wonderful! I was still pretty young when they stopped, the atmosphere is not the best one for children, most of the people are strange. Not jsut silly like we are, but they believed they were a part of it, or they were immoral etc. But one of the greatest things is that we still have the costumes, so I can use them for whatever I need to, and my dad knows all about heraldry and Romans and Medieval stuff. He's forgotten more heraldry than Marillë thinks she knows. And I can always get extra credit for bringing in stuff, and we use it at our annual Christmas Drama for the ROman Soldiers. WE built a city on roughly 3 acres of land and every year we recreate the night of Jesus' birth, and naturally the soldiers guard the city gate, which is HUGE. lol! Ya'll will have to come see it sometime.[/glow]
